So what does actually happen to a person who gets homoeopathic treatment? One
of the basic principles of Homoeopathy
is, that medicine has to cooperate with nature in maintaining health and combating
desease.Sickness is not a local affair but involves the whole person
- his psychological and emotional as well as his physical make up. A person is
not sick because it has this or that desease, the local desease is there because
the person is sick. All symptoms of sick health are an expression of disharmony
within the whole person.Symptoms are not the desease. Symptoms accompany
desease, they are an evidence of desease. Treating only the symptoms would be
like killing the messenger for bringing bad news. In fact, by treating just the
symptoms, we are suppressing the body's natural responses and inhibiting the healing
process.E.g. when you take a medicament against your headache (a painkiller)
this might take the pain away, but it ignores the cause of the headache. So your
body will have to find other expressions to show that there is a disorder- and
then normally the symptoms go from the surface to deeper parts of the body.According
to Homoeopathy it is the patient who needs treatment, not the desease. This is
called 'holistic medicine'.The homoeopath does not treat physical, mental
and emotional illnesses separately. He regards them as connected, as aspects of
the whole of the patients suffering. So the homoeopath has to get a clear
understanding of the whole picture of the patients state of health. That's why
he has to ask him a lot of questions. Questions, not only about the problems which
brought him to the homoeopath in the first place, but also about apparently minor
deviations from health, about the way his problem affects him, about his medical
history and the one of his family, about his character, his fears etc....The
patient may not realize sometimes why these questions are relevant now. But the
homoeopath needs to have a complete picture of the patient. The first appointment
may take more than two hours. Only like this a
remedy can be prescribed which this special person needs at this special
time in its life. The difference to conventional medicine is now, that
in homoeopathic treatment different people with the same symptoms are treated
in a different way, because the way people have pain can be different, the way
they cope with pain can be different, the way they live can be different etc....The
homoeopath takes notice of all these differences and prescribes individually.
This doesn't happen in conventional medicine, where different people with the
same symptoms are all treated the same way. |
